Participate in the 2015 Mayor’s School Walking Challenge

MERIDIAN, Idaho (Sept. 29, 2015) – October is WALKtober and we are inviting Mayors throughout Southwest and South Central Idaho to participate in a walking competition next month. Elementary schools are invited to also participate in the challenge to encourage healthy kids through healthy eating and physical activity. Winning area schools with the highest average number of miles per student will win $2,000 ($1,000 designated to physical activity equipment and $1,000 for school foodservice equipment)! The Mayor who walks the most miles in October will receive $5,000 to donate to a park or school of their choice for new physical activity equipment!

Students and Mayors will log  miles walked during Thursday, October 1, 2015 through Friday, October 30, 2015. Mayors will receive Fitbits provided by Blue Cross of Idaho to track their steps and give real-time leader updates.

Areas involved in this year’s challenge include: Blaine County, Elmore County, Treasure Valley, Magic Valley and Valley County.
