Position Title: Producer & Community Relations Manager FLSA Exemption Classification: Exempt

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Integrated Communications, this position embraces the global vision and partner strategy across the dairy industry and advances the interests of the regional dairy interests through creative and strategic communication initiatives. This role supports dairy farm family outreach and communication efforts by sharing checkoff information, identifying dairy stories, and supporting the team with partner outreach and community events.
The Producer and Community Relations Manager exhibits strong organizational skills and self-motivation, celebrates cross-team collaboration, and demonstrates solution-based innovation. Additionally, the Producer and Community Relations Manager embraces diverse responsibilities and change with ease and enthusiasm.



This position serves as the primary liaison in communicating the value and resources of dairy checkoff to, and deepening engagement with, dairy industry investors and partners (which primarily includes producers, cooperatives, dairy organizations, dairy leaders, industry boards, and secondarily includes vendors and suppliers).

  • Collaboratively develops and executes communications through newsletters, website, digital distribution, social media, presentations, collateral materials and other means.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for dairy producers in providing materials, resources, and other means of support for ongoing activities including dairy farm tour programs and local events and activities.
  • Engages dairy farmers and industry leaders to support consumer confidence through media and crisis training, messaging, social media, speaker engagements, event participation, and collateral materials. Assists in identifying and promoting success stories from within the industry.
  • Works with affiliated agricultural organizations and agencies to create and retain dairy advocates, and achieve mutually beneficial goals of advancing a positive producer image in western agriculture.
  • Works with team members in a collaborative manner to support events and initiatives that achieve wellness and nutrition education goals.
  • Working with the communications and health and wellness teams, maintains a positive working relationship with key stakeholders and organizations in helping unite the many areas of the dairy industry into a collaborative community to foster industry growth and prosperity for farmers and industry leaders.
  • Supports the Dairy West crisis communications preparedness team.
  • Represents Dairy West at key industry events in helping ensure the understanding and value of the dairy checkoff.
  • Monitors performance criteria and collects data to report and evaluate program results.
  • Completes approved tasks/projects on time and within budget.
  • Provides support to program planning, communications/media relations, goals, and budgets, as directed by the Vice President of Integrated Communications.
  • Possesses a strong sense of team, and is able to identify areas to maximize resources and efforts for the greatest impact of an event or activity.
  • Other duties as assigned.


No official daily supervisory duties, but may take on interns and supervise event volunteers/staff as needed. This is subject to change as organizational needs evolve.


Education and Experience:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, plus a minimum of five years applicable professional work experience
  • Outstanding interpersonal, oral and written skills
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with WordPress and other WCMS systems, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and other online resources
  • Experience with strategic planning and forecasting

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of local, regional and national dairy checkoff goals and organization
  • Knowledge of the structure and function of media and integrated communications strategies
  • Proven ability to provide timely, respectful and thorough customer service to internal and external customers, both in person and over the phone
  • Ability to manage and prioritize workload
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks, prioritize and schedule duties independently to meet goals with minimal direct supervision
  • Seek out trends to develop programs that will effectively inspire trust and increase the demand for dairy products.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment
  • Ability to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times
  • Dependable, self-starter
  • Flexibility with diverse work
