You may have seen the phrase, “Where Good Comes From” associated with the dairy industry throughout the state of Idaho. As the organization representing over 500 dairy farm families throughout the state, we believe that good comes from these farms, and from the great state of Idaho. This truly is where good comes from.
Idaho is one of the top four dairy producing states, with over 13 billion pounds of milk produced annually. When people think of Idaho, potatoes come to mind, but dairy is the #1 export – which is indicative of how Idaho’s dairy farmers are contributing to the health of the nation and the world.
Mexico is one of the largest importers of dairy products. According to the USDA, U.S. exports of dairy products to Mexico have exceeded $1 billion in 2013 and 2014. Recognizing the opportunities abroad, several Idaho representatives will be attending the 13th Pan American Dairy Congress, organized by the Pan-American Dairy Federation (FEPALE) and the National Chamber of Industrial Milk (CANILEC), Sept. 8-11, 2014 in Queretaro, Mexico.
The purpose of this trade mission is to better understand the needs and opportunities for Idaho dairy producers and processors. Attending this event will be Karianne Fallow, CEO of the Idaho Dairy Products Commission based in Boise, Idaho. During the trip, she will report via Twitter (@IdahoDairy) and, following the trip, we will share a follow-up blog post to share her experience, report on the state of dairy exports in Mexico, and share how the Idaho dairy industry is responding to those opportunities.
